Evie Update 1/2009
Our little girl has grown AGAIN -and her stifles are giving her pain once more. Evie is now 18 hands at her withers and 18.2 ( !!) at her butt. She has some more height to attain , it seems. I would be Very happy if she just stopped growing UP , and began filling out more now. She's Plenty tall for ME - who has to now Jump up to simply put her heavy winter blanket on. The fellow who owned her sire says that ALL of the King Cong foals mature slowly, so not to worry. Gosh- I don't need her Taller ! 
Evie got her wolf teeth pulled this month ( Thanks to Dr Frankeny of Millerstown, PA) and she did quite well. She was sedated but alert- watching Dr Becky as she moved about. Luckily those nasty teeth were very small and the roots were so short that Evie hardly felt a thing. NOW once she is all healed , we will begin learning about holding a bit in one's mouth, and how to 'give' to the smallest pressure . Evie learns So fast, I'm constantly amazed.Having trained so many different horses in my lifetime, I'm always watching for those items that may cause difficulty in being learned. Eve hasn't had one of them yet. YET.
This winter she will learn to get bridled and what a bit feels like in her mouth. Then when She is ready mentally we'll begin learning to ground drive, eventually pulling that humongous truck tire. This will lead to her being hitched to a cart ever so carefully and cautiously. I don't want to make ANY mistakes with this treasured filly of mine.
Below is a photo of Eve in her "big girl" harness - taken last summer... She has a LOT of growing to do before it fits her perfectly !!
