first day outside

Is it dinner time, yet ???  Carlene '05

January 2005

This wonderful 14 yr old Clydesdale mare arrived here with left over Hoof Canker, she'd been foundered, and had been blowing hoof abscesses .
Her owners simply couldn't keep up with her health issues
and so very kindly shipped her to me.

And so our adventure together began in Jan, 2005.

Carlene has been doing well since I got her sound and happy. She has been to one show, and then we decided to retire her- let her live her life out happily here on the farm. Seems like that's been happening a lot here lately...

Below is a shot of her before her feathers had really re-grown :  Summer, 2005

Update:

11/17/2011

This past Fall, Carlene started going downhill , health-wise. I watched her slowly fall apart and there was little I could do to prevent this from happening. Last weekend, she was dead lame with Both front hooves having abcesses in them. She had lost a terrible amount of weight, and I knew it was 'time' to let her go.

Carlene passed away gently and with dignity, thanks to our vet, Becky Frankeny (Juniata Mobile Vet) on November 17th at 8:17AM

I will always miss this grand mare, and hope she is now across that "Rainbow Bridge", free of pain, and able to gallop with her friends who died before her. She was such a kind, gentle soul, and I shall miss her for a Long time.

'Fly Free, my beloved Carli- I'll always love you...'
