''Solace''
I'll lend you for a little while,
My grandest foal, HE said.
For you to love while she's alive,
And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be one or twenty years,
Or days or months, you see.
But will you, til I take her back,
Take care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you
And should her stay be brief,
You'll have those treasured memories,
As Solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught on earth
I want this foal to learn.

I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
With trust, I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love?
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come
To take her back again?

I know you'll give her tenderness
And love will bloom each day.
And for the happiness you've known,
You will forever-grateful stay.
But should I come and call for her
Much sooner than you'd planned.
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And maybe understand.

'Lullaby Dixie' deserves her own page. She is our black,17 hand,1800 pound Percheron mare we bought from Bill Farmer of Ohio. She was something to behold at the first show we took her to. So very hitchy and when Dixie goes into "Show Mode'' - lookout ! I had a wonderful time at those shows and remember thinking as we went dancing into that ring for the first time: "Sure, its'a good day to die" as I was certain we'd never come out in one piece. But we did,we won the class, and she proved her worth to me. I will never go one day without a thought of her..........

                                     In Tribute:

Dixie left us on December 2nd, 2004.She had been fighting a kidney disease and it was to be her demise. Dixie died peacefully and without a struggle. Our 'Dixie Darlin' was just 18 yrs old. She is buried at the top of the hill pasture where she can oversee the whole farm.We here at WoodFinn are heartbroken at losing such a close friend and wonderful partner, as Dixie was a huge part of this farm.

Go in peace,my Dixie Darlin'....I will never forget our good times and seeing you bounce your way out to pasture each morning.

Rest well,my brave mare...

You will be missed forever, and I love you...
